Lidl Hungary has significantly bolstered its operational capabilities with the inauguration of a vast logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, an endeavor that commanded an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million. This new facility stands as the largest warehouse for the retailer in the country and is poised to supply goods to around 70 stores across Hungary. The center spans over 83,000 square meters, reflecting Lidl’s commitment to enhancing its distribution network.
This state-of-the-art logistics hub not only amplifies Lidl’s supply chain efficiency but also contributes to the local economy by creating over 400 new jobs. Furthermore, Lidl is aiming to hire an additional 50 employees soon to meet the demands of its expanding operations. The facility is equipped with 194 loading docks and boasts a significant 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring the seamless handling and storage of various products.
In line with Lidl’s focus on sustainability, the logistics center integrates several energy-efficient measures. A noteworthy feature is the 9,000-square-meter solar installation on the rooftop, which contributes to reducing the facility’s carbon footprint. Additionally, the technology implemented allows for the reuse of waste heat generated by the refrigeration system, which is then utilized for underfloor heating, demonstrating an innovative approach to energy management.
The logistics center also emphasizes environmental stewardship with the development of a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area surrounding the site. This green initiative aligns with Lidl’s broader sustainability goals and commitment to fostering ecological balance. As the center begins operations, it is projected to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily, thereby reinforcing Lidl’s supply network throughout Hungary.
Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores in Hungary and maintains a strong connection with local suppliers, sourcing nearly 60% of its products domestically. The new logistics center is anticipated to support Lidl’s growth strategy and fortify its market presence. By enhancing its infrastructure, Lidl continues to solidify its role as a key player in Hungary’s retail sector, ensuring efficient service delivery to its growing customer base.
